Brooknet Webcam

Captured using a Logitech Quickcam Web and the quickcam-tt Linux driver.

Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java - try the non-Java page or the server-push page.

Netscape/Mozilla/Konqueror users: please go to the 'push' page if this page doesn't work or the pic doesn't update.

(If you see just a blank space above, wait a bit - there's a bit of a delay in loading the image when the applet first runs. Also, check that you have Java enabled. I have tested this applet with Konqueror on Red Hat Linux 7.2. Mozilla needs the optional Java plugin, which should automatically download and install on demand; be warned, Netscape's FTP site is very slow and far away, and it takes more than a few minutes if you live in the UK.)

If you have a Linux or Unix system with Window Maker installed, you might like to use this script to view the cam. It's a simple loop that uses GNU wget to retrieve the webcam pic every 30 seconds - this interval is adjustable - and sets the display background using wmsetbg. In English: your desktop wallpaper becomes whatever I am showing on the cam - simple.

The script that I use to transfer my webcam pictures to the web server is a very simple one; it does little more than capture an image and copy it to an NFS-exported location [as of 27-Jun-04, I don't use this system any more - instead, I use sftp to copy across the webcam pic from the Xbox, where it is 'snapped'].

This page will periodically refresh and, if a new image has been uploaded, my webcam pic will be displayed.

26-Dec-02: One major change: the webcam image is now held on my local website and the image URL referred to in this page looks to that URL for the image. If you don't see an image, it probably means that I am offline or I haven't updated the no-ip.com address (maybe I want a bit of privacy?). A more likely explanation is that the electricity at the chalet's gone out, as it does when it runs out of credits (pesky coin-operated meter!).

As of 09-May-02, I am using a Java applet to display the image (it's the AnfyCam applet). The old page is still available for non-Java browsers that can handle the Refresh META tag, and there's the default server-side push page.

I'm still working on this page - content may change. If you have any suggestions for improvements, please email me.
